What is “Tai Chi Chuan”
How will it Benefit Me?

Tai Chi is famous for it's slow beautiful, gentle flowing motion, almost like the waves in the ocean breaking onto shore, and then receding back to it's source.
Tai Chi movement is based on the yin and the yang, the continuous shifting of weight from one side of the body to the other to create the beautiful postures of the form.
This movement when coordinated with the breath can help Connect the Mind and the Body.
Did you know the breath is a well known bridge between the two?

Although Tai Chi was originally a Martial Art it is mainly practiced today as an excellent form of exercise with many health benefits.

The ancient art of tai chi and qi gong gains momentum for its calming and restorative properties

Trending as hot as yoga in the 70s, tai chi is heralded as a low-impact form of exercise with a myriad of benefits.
The ancient Chinese art of tai chi, initially performed as a martial art and is noted in historical records as being practiced some 4,000 years ago. A fast-growing exercise and health sport, especially for those over 60, its benefits include stress reduction, enhanced relaxation and peace of mind, pain reduction, and improved concentration, memory, and balance.

With its slow-paced, gentle, and fluid movements, some describe the moving art form as akin to waves breaking on the shore and receding to their source. According to instructor Bruce Marcus of Tru Tai Chi in Greenacres, “Movements are based on the yin and the yang, the continuous shifting of weight from one side of the body to the other to create the beautiful postures of the form. When coordinated with the breath, this movement can help connect the mind and body, the breath serving as a bridge between the two.

Tru Tai Chi in Palm Beach County

A student in his 20s, Bruce Marcus, a Long Island, New Yorker, studied with teachers who studied under the first Chinese masters, like B.P. Chan, who came to the U.S. in the early 1970s. Marcus has practiced the art for 48 years.
Six years ago, he continued teaching Tai Chi in the Palm Beach area after relocating from Long Island.

Tai Chi is suitable for beginners. The gentle, low-impact 45-minute class promotes body and mind awareness, proper body alignment and postural development. “Tai chi is taught with qi gong,” explained Marcus. “We teach standing and progress through various hand and body postures, then a moving set of qi gong that incorporates those postures and builds movements within those forms. Both are combined to first learn the yang style short form with movements strung together in a routine.

The whole system is based on the shifting from one side of the body to the other, slowly revolving back and forth, which generates the moves that use the entire body. The rotating from side to side becomes a weight-bearing exercise that helps improve bone density.” that Marcus noted the connection or flow between movements is always in ground contact. “We move from the back leg to the forward leg with a step or change of posture with direction and transition to the next move,” explained Marcus.

“Breathing helps stimulate the lymphatic system and strengthens the immune system. The correlation between breathing and movement is described as opening or breathing in and closing or breathing out, so it’s natural breathing. We retrain the body to perform deep breathing in the lower abdomen to increase stability since it lowers the center of gravity. If you are a chest breather, the center of gravity is much higher; breathing impacts on built-up tension.

”Benefits include improved balance, walking and stability due to exercises that restore balance; as the body shifts, you are aware of feeling grounded and steady on your feet. “Just standing takes mental strength to stay focused and to calm the mind.
Students report improved mental well-being, empowerment and a sense of accomplishment after a class.” ¦

What Our Students Say
About Us

I have been a student at Tru Tai Chi for several months. It has been a terrific experience. Bruce is a very knowledgeable and patient teacher and the class is all so fun. I would highly recommend him without reservation to anyone interested in learning Tai chi.

I had pain shooting down my arms and legs...I didn't know what to do. I was desperate, and ready to try anything.
Bruce taught me one of his "standing sets" to help me release the tension in my neck, and back.
Over time gravity helped to separate the space between the discs in my spine. This helped the impingement of the nerves that was causing me so much pain.

Stephanie Greenberg

former Student

Shortly after starting the beginner's class I noticed my posture and walking improved dramatically. I now walk easier, faster and with a noticeable increase in stamina. Bruce, our instructor is totally dedicated to his art. He is an exceptional teacher and he is always aware of the needs of his students.

private student

I began studying Tai Chi here about 6 months ago. I have to say that Bruce is a wonderful teacher with knowledge that comes from long study and mastering both hard and soft styles. This was not my first time taking Tai Chi classes, but has been the most rewarding. Bruce teaches the Tai Chi form and also the very subtle body mechanics that take the movements to a whole different level. Class is relaxed, but very informative each time. There is also exposure to Chi Kung, and sometimes the other "sister" internal arts all of which fit together nicely!
